AI work that starts
with understanding
Thawn was built around the belief that AI should serve the people using it — not the other way around. We help Malaysian organisations find the right fit, at the right scale.
Back to HomeFrom a shared frustration to a focused practice
Thawn started as a conversation between colleagues who kept seeing the same pattern: organisations in Malaysia were curious about AI but unsure how to make it work for them in a practical sense. The market was full of large-scale platforms and offshore vendors — but very little in between.
We set up in Bukit Damansara in 2022 with a straightforward intention: offer AI consulting that prioritises honesty over hype. Our first engagements were project scoping exercises — helping companies articulate what they actually wanted from AI before committing time and budget to development.
Over time, we expanded into implementation work — email triage systems, multi-modal pipelines — because clients who understood their needs well were better positioned to act on them. Today, Thawn works with a small number of clients at any given time, which allows us to give each engagement the attention it deserves.
Our mission
To help organisations in Malaysia make considered, well-informed decisions about AI — and to build the things that actually help once those decisions are made.
What we value
- Clarity over complexity. The simpler a solution can be, the better. We resist adding layers that don't serve the client.
- Honesty first. If something won't work well for you, we'd rather say so early than discover it after weeks of work.
- Respect for your team. We work alongside your people, not over them. Knowledge transfer is part of every engagement.
- Patient pacing. Good AI work takes time. We don't cut corners to look faster, and we won't rush you into decisions.

How we work with care
These aren't aspirations — they're the practices we follow on every engagement.
Responsible data use
Client data is used only for the scope of the agreed work. We follow PDPA (Malaysia) requirements and are open to signing NDAs before any data exchange.
Documented deliverables
Every project ends with written documentation — architecture decisions, data flow diagrams, maintenance notes — so your team can work with what we've built.
Version-controlled code
All code is maintained in version-controlled repositories throughout the engagement, with clean handover at the end so you own what was built.
Regular communication
We maintain regular check-ins with clients throughout each project. You won't be waiting weeks for an update on how things are progressing.
Ethical AI consideration
We raise potential bias, fairness, or interpretability concerns when they're relevant — not just technical ones. These conversations belong in scoping, not after launch.
Knowledge transfer
We build understanding alongside the product. By the end of an engagement, your team should know what was built and why — not just that it exists.
AI consulting built for the Malaysian context
Organisations in Malaysia face a specific set of conditions when adopting AI: a multilingual workforce, mixed infrastructure maturity, and a business environment where trust and relationship-building matter as much as technical credentials. Thawn operates with all of this in mind.
Our work spans email automation, multi-modal data processing, and structured project definition. Each of these services was chosen because it addresses a common pain point we observed across sectors — financial services, professional practices, logistics, and beyond.
We are a boutique practice. That means limited client intake, attentive service, and engagements where we are genuinely invested in outcomes. If you're considering AI for your organisation and want to think it through carefully, Thawn is a reasonable place to start.
